Cages for cockatiels should be at least large enough for your bird to spread his or her wings fully without obstruction and large enough to prevent the tail from always rubbing against the cage bars.

A cockatiel cage for one bird should be a minimum of 20" wide x 20" deep. If you have more than one cockatiel, or plan to eventually have a pair, you should get a large cockatiel cage that is a minimum of 40" wide x 28" deep.
